Only when there is a heavy downpour do the rivers flow from the hills. But what does the man of today hope for? The rain need not fall, but the rivers must flow! How can the rivers flow without the rains falling? In the same way, only when we carry out our duty do we get our right. Right means river. Only when the rain called responsibility comes does the river called right come.

A Heart with Compassion Is the Temple of God

Students! You are the citizens to be. You are the ones who will uplift the Bhārata of the future. So you must conduct yourselves with care. You must take part in work that satisfies society. You must put the money you have earned to good use in society. You must use money for the progress of society. But above all you must develop morality, the moral. There is a proverb, “One without morality is worse than a monkey.” People speak of mankind. But it has become monkey mind. Mankind means that man should be kind. Only then do they call it mankind. There is no kindness. Then how will man come to progress? In humanness there must be a heart. Hṛt + dayā = hṛdaya. Only when he is full of compassion does man take shape as man. A man without compassion can only be called a demon. ‘A heart with compassion is the temple of God’; so you must become full of compassion. The aim of study is just to change man into one full of compassion. Every man must develop expansion love. Today, as study keeps growing, there is contraction love: the principle of Prema diminishes. Narrow feelings are growing. When man is made a complete man, study is as good as complete. Vidyā means Jñāna itself. What kind of Jñāna is needed? Complete Jñāna is needed. Not physical knowledge. This is called information oriented knowledge. There is no use in this knowledge. It is mere acquaintance with books. But what comes through practice is Transformation knowledge. That is what is needed today. People hope to acquire knowledge. This knowledge is merely superficial knowledge. But you must develop superior knowledge, practical knowledge.
