In plain words
At some time you may be proud, thinking, ‘I am an educated man.’ What is the use of your education? What you have studied, you took from society itself. The learning you took from society you must offer to society itself. If you do not offer to society the good qualities and the learning you gained from society, there is no use in having studied. You must use what you have studied for society. That is true education. Doing a job, earning money. What is this money? Morality is very important. Only when there is morality is all this learning of any use. Money goes only so far. Money comes and goes, morality comes and grows. We must foster morality, which grows.
Students! Young men! Young women!
First of all we must enter into the work of service. What kind of service should we do? We must not do service for some show, or for name and fame. You must do service for the satisfaction of the heart. You must experience that Ānanda. The Ānanda you have experienced, you must share with others. But many think, ‘We are going for service, we are doing village service.’ Before you go to do service, you must set your minds right. You must foster broad feelings. If the whole of life passes in ‘I, I’, when will ‘we’ ever be reached? Only when Prema is given and received for Prema does ‘we’ come about easily. We must believe that the whole world is one universal family. Today we must bring things to that state. That is what I want. From the time this body was born: service, service. We must offer up the whole of life within service. This is My message. I do it and show you. I love all, and I ask you to love. But the young do not understand this principle of Prema in the right way. Going by your own feelings, you misunderstand Prema. This is not My fault; you are at fault. You are understanding it wrongly. So there is no adjustment, and quarrels keep breaking out. First of all we must understand divine Prema.
Embodiments of Prema!
From the day you were born, the one thing that has come with you, as your companion, in your home and before your eyes, is Prema. No relative came with you. No friend came with you. What came with you is Prema alone. That Prema is the true God. He alone came with you. With that very Prema bring your life to its close. Share your Prema with others. Through this very Prema experience Ānanda. Why has Ānanda vanished from this world? Because Prema has vanished. There is no Prema. What is all this love that is put on show? All these are artificial loves! They are of no use for anything. Whether we live or die, what remains in the world is Prema. Foster such lasting Prema. Experience the lasting Satya. That, they said in the Veda, is ṛtam. What is Satya? Telling what happened just as it happened is not Satya. Telling what you saw just as you saw it is not Satya. Telling what you did just as you did it is not Satya. What stays forever through the three times is Satya. You may change your clothes every day. Today you may wear one colour, tomorrow another. The colours of these clothes keep changing. But the body is one, is it not! So we must not be afraid at all for the sake of these clothes. Just as we change our clothes every day, death is the dress of life. All these go, just as we change our clothes! Whatever is the cause of being born is also the cause of dying. It comes and it goes. A passing cloud. No cloud lasts forever. As long as it lasts, this body must serve others, and then die. Right to the end, when life leaves us, we must serve. We must serve living beings. There is no need to serve the gods. The jīva itself is God. So when you serve the jīva, it is as good as serving God. First of all begin service. First of all bend your back and work. Restrain your senses. Without restraining the senses, however much service you do is of no use. So first of all we must restrain the senses. What makes man wicked in every way, a demon, is our senses alone. If we turn the senses into Prema, everything will be full of Prema. Now so many people have come here. Whom did we invite?
