Passage 5

Tap any word for its meaning.

In plain words

It is the Prema between the two of us that did the inviting. Your Prema for Me and My Prema for you: that alone has deepened our close bond. Our Prema alone created this close bond; there was no invitation of any kind. Where this Prema is, no suffering of any kind can be felt. How far does Prema go today? It travels only as far as family and relatives. In any country, the educated must first of all give fitting respect. Parents must give fitting encouragement to it. But parents who show an ideal are not to be seen today. Teachers who demonstrate an ideal are not to be seen either. Nor are there friends who demonstrate an ideal. So how can children be free of faults! First of all, parents must make the start at home. At school the teachers must begin. Friends must come together and deepen their close bond. Satsaṅga. When we join good company, we become good. When we join bad company, we become bad. Whatever company you join, that is what you become. From rising at dawn until lying down at night, it is bad company. Living like this, how can we help becoming wicked!

All of you are virtuous. You are very good. But make a fitting effort to increase that goodness. In these three days you are here, you can grow in goodness as much as you like. Put away bad company, put away bad conduct, put away bad thoughts, and foster good feelings. What is that like? All are my brothers. Do not keep any feelings of difference. Mamaivāṃśo jīvalokē jīvabhūtas sanātanaḥ. ‘All are a part of Me,’ said the Lord. The one sun appears in many forms. So we must not yield to these reflections, reactions and resounds. We must gain reality. This is what we are worshipping. All we speak is resound. All we do is reaction. All we see is reflection. If we want to see reality, we must foster the divinity within us. In you there is one thing and one alone. That is divinity. It does not move, it does not stir. It always remains everlasting. We must foster the feeling of the Ātma. Fostering these forms and names more and more, we are ruining even our own form. Give up forms and names. Choose the divine feeling. Let the feeling you have chosen carry you across.

Embodiments of the divine Ātma!

In these three days, recognise well the divinity within humanness. It is in every human being. You are not trying to see it. You are entering the physical world. All these are like passing clouds. Nothing is lasting. Beyond the guṇas, stainless, eternal, the abode, eternal, awakened, free, pure in form. See that reality. Nothing of this world is reality. Keep this truth in your heart. But carry out your duty. Honour your parents. Love your parents. Serve your parents. Help your elders and give them fitting support. Help ever, hurt never. If you recognise these two, you can achieve anything. Where did these two come from? In the eighteen Purāṇas, Vyāsa's words are two: helping others brings merit, hurting others brings sin. The essence of all the Vedas is in these two words. The essence of all Vedānta is in these two words. The essence of the Bible is in these two words. The essence of the Koran is in these two words. In the Bible, the Koran, the Granth Sahib and the Bhagavad Gītā, the truth is one. People think of the religions as different, but this is a great mistake. Religions are not different. There are no religions at all. All of us together have one religion! That is the religion of man. Religion of love, caste of humanity, language of the heart. Hold on to this. When you live in this way, you can achieve anything.

So first begin with service, and reach from the place called ‘I’ to the place called ‘we’. How to reach it I shall tell you in the days ahead. First of all, this good fortune has come to you. How many people there are in the world.
