Passage 10

In plain words

Wherever there are bad qualities, bad thoughts and bad practices, there sorrow and grief dance their wild dance. So, do not see evil. Hear only good; do not speak evil, speak only good; do not think evil, think only good; do not do evil, do only good. This itself is the royal road to Divinity.

Faith and grace

Whatever happens, think that it is only for your good. A little while ago you saw Swami speaking with a man on this platform, did you not? That man's name is Nārāyaṇa. He came from Madras. Last week he had a heart attack. His son is studying in our college. The boy telephoned his father: “Do not go to other doctors. Set out at once and come to Puttaparthi,” he told him. After he came here the doctors examined him and said that the four valves of the heart had clogged up, and that even an operation would be difficult. Three doctors came from America. They were amazed that he was still alive, though the flow of blood had stopped from every side. When they asked him, “Nārāyaṇa Garu! How are you now?”, “I have no pain at all. I am happy. Swami is right with me. So I have no suffering at all,” he said. But the doctors were not satisfied.

The day before yesterday at eight in the morning they took him to the operation theatre; not one hour, not two hours, but five hours they operated. In all they did four ‘bypasses’. The operation was the day before yesterday, and see, today he has come here! Usually, after an operation like this, in any hospital one has to stay in bed for at least ten days. But he sat up as early as yesterday. When the doctors gave him idlis, he ate them well. Yesterday evening he walked three hundred feet. Now he has come here in trousers and shirt like a ‘college boy’. I was very happy to see it. I told him, “The root cause of all this is your faith.”
