The Heart Is Like a Pen
The mind of man today is filled entirely with negative feelings. Negative feelings are worldly desires and longings. There is nothing wrong in having them. But they must stay within a limit. Whatever you write with a pen, whatever lines you draw, they take on only the colour of the ink filled in the pen. If the ink is blue, they look blue. If it is red, they look red. The heart is like a pen. If you fill it with negative feelings, your thoughts, your words, your deeds and your looks will all be negative. So first of all you must fill your heart with Prema. Only then will the looks you cast, the words you speak and the deeds you do all be filled with Prema. The whole world will appear to you as filled with Prema. But today it is precisely because there is no such Prema in your heart that hatred, envy, ostentation and other negative feelings are entering it. Through impure food and ways of living and through excessive attachment to the body, the evil qualities of lust, anger, greed, delusion, pride and envy are springing up in you. So you must keep attachment to the body and the desires of the body under control. Only when you cut down the ‘luggage’ of desires will the journey of life go smoothly. Attachment to the body may be there. When you live together with wife and children, with relatives and friends, it is not possible to be without attachment to the body. But keeping it under control, you must lead your life with the sacred feeling “Lokās samastā sukhino bhavantu.”
All That Is Seen Outside Is the Reflection of the Inner Feeling
The whole world rests on the heart of man alone. Whatever powers there are in the world, all of them are present in man alone. The human body itself is a big generator; the heart is the radio, and the mind the television. So every single thing seen outside is a reflection of the inner feeling. If you see bad in others, understand that it is the very bad in you that is reflected in them. If you hear of the bad in others, recognise that it is only the reflection of the bad within you.
