In plain words

In the same way, if the teacher's mind is unsteady, he cannot set the students on the proper path. So the teacher's mind must be steady. The teacher must grow selfless Prema toward the students. If you love the children with some desire in view, it becomes selfish love.

Book Learning Is ‘Allergy’, Knowledge from Experience Is ‘Energy’

If students have no moral, righteous and spiritual feelings at all, then however much they study, their studies take the wrong road. A small example: though husband and wife are highly educated, though they hold high positions, on some occasion or other differences of opinion arise between them and they separate. What makes even the highly educated behave like this? All the learning they have acquired relates merely to Bookish Knowledge. Today's Bookish Knowledge turns into ‘allergy’ tomorrow. Students must develop ‘energy’, not ‘allergy’. If you want ‘energy’, you must put Bookish Knowledge aside and acquire Practical Knowledge. Along with this, Discrimination Knowledge is needed. Before doing any work, you must take some time and inquire, “Is this good or bad?” Haste is not good. If even a highly educated husband and wife decide in haste to separate, what then becomes of the home? They move the parents off to an old people's home. They put the children in some boarding school and give no thought to them at all. As a result, the children go astray, fall into bad habits and ruin their lives.

The Home Is the Abode of Values

First of all, human values must be developed in the home. Only then can every person in the home become an example to follow. Every householder: “This is my home. I must make purity grow in it. Every person in my family must set an example”: this is the sacred vow he must take up. You must recognise the truth that the home itself is the abode of values. The educated of today, and above all those in high positions, pay no heed at all to their very own homes; they regard the home as an inn or a hotel.
