Tell It as It Should Be Told, and Anyone Will Believe
In any country, in any age, human values are needed by all. Many people think it is hard to bring education with human values into America and other countries. Why can they not bring it in? When you teach the need for these well, they will surely bring it in. If you tell them that Satya, Dharma, Śānti and Prema are human values, they will not understand. “Satya itself is God, Prema itself is God. So live your life with Prema”: this is what you must teach them. Will anyone say that you should not tell the truth? If you say, “Teach your children to speak the truth,” will anyone refuse to listen? When you explain Satya, Dharma, Śānti and Prema in this way and teach well the inner meaning of these words, anyone will believe. Only for want of explaining these in the right way do some people make up wrong meanings for themselves: “This is the Hindu Dharma. It is not our ‘culture’,” they say. For Hindus, for Christians, for Muslims, for Americans.... for everyone, Satya is Satya. Satya is one. That itself is God. People of any country have no choice but to accept this. That 2+2=4, Indians, Americans, Pakistanis, Chinese... people of any country at all must accept. This does not belong to one country or one age. This is a truth that applies equally to all countries in all ages.
A great many eminent people come to Swami. When I ask, “My dear! What do you want?”, they say, “Swami! I want peace.” When I ask, “Where is peace?”, they say they do not know. Then I tell them: “My dear! There is no peace in the outer world. Peace is right there within you. You yourself are the embodiment of peace. Recognise this truth, and you will surely experience peace.” When you explain this truth in full, anyone at all, from any country, has no choice but to accept it. Human values are worth following for people of all countries, all religions and all classes.
