In plain words

Give Up Ahaṅkāra, and Man Himself Is God

Every man hopes to have Ānanda. But Ānanda lies within himself. The body is the Annamaya kośa. After it, in order, come the Prāṇamaya, Manomaya, Vijñānamaya and Ānandamaya kośas. The Ānandamaya itself is his goal. Through the stages of childhood, youth, adolescence and old age the state of the body changes, but he who is in the body does not change, does he! In childhood, who are you? Ask, and he says, ‘I’. In youth, who are you? Ask, and he says, ‘I’. You must find out who that ‘I’ is. In English it is called I. If you ‘cut’ it, it becomes the ‘cross’ (+), the symbol of the Christian faith. That is, if he cuts away the Ahaṅkāra that says the body is ‘I’, he himself becomes God. If he cuts away Ahaṅkāra, he himself becomes God. Where there is Ahaṅkāra, Prema cannot be. So give no room to Ahaṅkāra. The body grows and the body wanes. Regard it merely as a tool.

Bring the mind under your control. Pursue the studies you have to pursue. These too are needed for a livelihood. Besides, your parents will have set many hopes on you. You must study in order to uplift them. Along with these studies you must develop the spiritual principle too. Then you will be happy always. There will be not the least room for sorrow. Who bore and reared your body and developed it in every way, if not your parents! That is why the Veda taught, “Mātṛdevo bhava, pitṛdevo bhava.” Regard them as embodiments of God; make them content. I am not telling you to learn some great learning. Put the learning you have gained into practice and enjoy Ānanda; stand as an example to others.

Attachment to the Body Is the Wall That Blocks Oneness

Our Union Minister, Murli Manohar Joshi, is a man of very great learning. Today he taught you many good things. But how far have you understood them? It is enough if you understand any one of them and put it into practice. To burn down a village you do not need many matchsticks; it is enough to get hold of a single one. In the same way, it is enough to recognise that what exists in this world is one alone; you can achieve everything.
