Passage 7

In plain words

We gave them that too. But a greed arose in them that if they went into the bazaar and begged, coins would come their way. Today everyone's desire for coins has gone beyond all limits. Wealth comes and it goes. Moral strength, when it comes, keeps growing. All this is known to the members of our Organisations. But, knowing it, why are you scrambling after money? You must not scramble. Be content with what you have. In the country there are many poor people. But truly it may be said that it is the poor who are the great rich men. For the contentment they have, even the rich do not have. Contentment itself is peace; discontent itself is unrest. As desires grow, there is nothing but unrest; peace is not to be had. So, lessen your desires. Put the wealth you have to good use. Are you hoarding wealth in order to send your sons, grandsons and granddaughters to America? When they have grown up, who knows whether they will go to America itself or go to another world altogether? If they have to go, the money will come of itself at that time.

Many come and say, “Swami! We have no Peace of mind.” God has given you all the peace you need. The whole world is filled with peace. You yourselves are the embodiments of peace, but because you enter into wicked deeds you are left without Peace. Because your desires grow too great and because you misuse your senses, your peace is going to Pieces. Through evil desires the man of today is turning, step by step, into a beast. You must grow divinity in humanness, not grow the beast.

Do Not Misuse Wealth for Show

God Himself has provided every single thing that man needs. Wherever you look, there is only good. But you do not notice that good. You are drawn only by the bad; you believe only in the bad. All of you are seeing it for yourselves: though so many lakhs of people have come here, free meals have been given to all. How sweet it is! Whatever I serve you, I too eat that very same food. It has a good ‘taste’.
