Passage 2

Tap any word for its meaning.

In plain words

Unable to bear the sight of the sacred work Jesus was doing, some went on subjecting him to many troubles. Day by day they fed their hatred of him. Jealous that his name and fame were growing, even the priests went on preaching against him. The fishermen, though, became his disciples, and went on loving and worshipping him. Those who could not bear it put many obstacles in his way and made him suffer. At the very last they even tried to take his life. A disciple called Judas also took part in this.

Jesus had twelve disciples. The twelfth of them was Judas. At that time there was just one Judas. Today many Judases have sprung up. That is exactly why unrest has grown in the world. Some jealous men stirred up a greed for money in Judas, a man of small mind, and won him over. Wanting nothing more than a few silver coins, Judas betrayed his guru. The notion “Dhanamūla midaṃ jagat” had already begun among the people two thousand years ago.

Slander against Sai, out of nothing but jealousy

Doing harm to others for money, falling into injustice, wrongdoing and evil ways, creating a wrong that does not exist and preaching against the sacred, eternal truth: this is not of those days alone; it goes on happening today too. This is the way of the world. No one should fear it. Why should we be afraid of faults that are not in us? Why should we fear wrongs that are not in us? From time without beginning, wicked and jealous men have spread slander against the divine beings who won the world's renown through their true and eternal feelings. Today too there is no lack of such slander. Seeing the name and honour of Sai growing day by day, many are jealous. Well then, if you ask whether they are doing any good work, they are not making even the least attempt.
