The selfless service Sai is doing
Since the time of the British, not a single person could bring drinking water to Rāyalasīma, renowned as it is. There were so many rich men and leaders. But not a single one took up this good work. Since water itself is life to man, Sai Baba brought water to every home. Today, if you want a heart operation, you need lakhs of rupees. Sai Baba has built super speciality hospitals and is having heart operations done free for lakhs of people. These days, to put a little child in school, you first have to pay a donation of twenty thousand. But Sai Baba gives free education from KG to PG. Is anyone doing even a thousandth part of this? Is any government giving education and medical care free? No, no; Sathya Sai Baba alone is labouring for the good of others, with no such thing as self-interest in it. But some unworthy men have begun to spread slander against Sai. They are left without any knowledge of what kind of work Sai is doing. They are becoming men of very little understanding, all these educated people.
Sai's is a most sacred heart, a pure feeling, a selfless Prema. Purity, Patience, Perseverance: these three P's are in Sathya Sai Baba. Through these three, Sathya Sai Baba is doing selfless service. In Sathya Sai Baba, from the toenail to the hair of the head, there is no self-interest anywhere. Can those who have heads not think even this much? What is all this slander of theirs for? For money alone! All these evil thoughts are for money alone. All these wicked schemes are for money alone. Not only this: they are paying money to convert people from one religion to another. Even swāmīs who wear ochre robes are stooping to slander against one another.
