In plain words
Prema is My very life; Jñāna is the very fruit I give
Sathya Sai Baba does not know self-interest at all, not for a single moment. My vow is just one. Whatever crores it may cost, I must remove the hardships of the poor. I must put a little food into their stomachs. I must have their children taught. Even the greatest of millionaires are not taking up such good works. When people come to their door crying, “Mother, I am hungry,” some rich men mercilessly set the dog on them and drive them away. Are such people men in authority? Shame, shame; it is an insult even to think such people human! Can those who spread slander about Sai Baba today do even a thousandth part of the good works Sai Baba is doing? Then with what face do they come forward to slander? That is an insult to themselves! Follow Sathya Sai Baba and show the world the right path. I have no desires of any kind, no cravings of any kind, and no jealousy at all. For Me it is always Prema and only Prema! Prema is My very life; Jñāna is the very fruit I give. These alone I have made My support.
So those who held out the lure of money and had the slander spread will fall sooner or later; there is no need even to speak of those who spread it. We must use money for charity and good works, not for slander like this. Whatever slander anyone spreads, I am not afraid. What has Satya to fear? What has Dharma to fear? What has Prema to fear? There is nothing at all to fear. Mine is always the path of Satya, the path of Dharma, the path of Prema! Today I am explaining My principle of Prema to you in full. No Avatāra could escape facing such wicked men. The wicked Kaṃsa, Śiśupāla, Dantavaktra and others nursed hatred for Kṛṣṇa, who came down to give an ideal life. Rāma, who came down to establish Dharma, had to live in the forest. Rāvaṇa carried off his wedded wife and put him through many hardships. But did any of those who tormented them achieve anything? Nothing at all. Reviling God and tormenting God is a great sin. If you are not able to do good, it is better to sit with your mouth shut; you must not enter into a sinful act like this.
