In plain words

With God's grace, anything can be achieved

Embodiments of Prema! Every man hopes that the new year will bring him new happiness and joy. The new year does not bring us our happiness and joy. Today is just as yesterday was; tomorrow will be just as today is. There is no change in the days. Each one experiences the result of the actions he himself has done. If one does good, sorrow does not come; if we do evil, we cannot enjoy happiness. Whatever you do, there is no escaping the experience of its result. But one who is worthy of God's grace accepts happiness and sorrow with equanimity. God's grace shatters any sin whatever to pieces and brings Śānti. But under the sway of this Kali age man has lost his faith in God. How can God's grace come to such a one? By God's grace you can root out any hardship in a moment; you can enjoy any happiness. You can attain Śānti of any kind. But if God's grace is to come, you must do selfless deeds with a steady feeling and a spotless heart.

Ānanda springs only from sacred feelings

When a new year begins, many people celebrate it as a festival, with stirring words, with songs and with games. But that enthusiasm and that joy do not last. What we need is lasting Śānti, lasting Ānanda. If you want to gain lasting Ānanda by doing deeds that are fleeting and worldly, how can that be? Those who long to experience lasting Ānanda must do deeds that are lasting and sacred. Years come and go. Our happiness and sorrow, too, come and go. None of these lasts. Lasting Ānanda is gained only through the experience of the Ātma. New years do not bring us our happiness and joy. They bring only the result of the actions we have done. We must do our deeds with sacred feelings in the heart. Only then can happiness and Śānti be had.
