Passage 8

Tap any word for its meaning.

In plain words

Do not worry about the future. It is not in your hands. Who can say for certain that we will live till tomorrow? The present alone is what matters. So you must put the present to good use.

The Ānanda born of sacrifice is the wealth that never wanes and never melts away

Today the new year has begun. But the new year has brought nothing new. The same day that came yesterday has come today too. If we do good work today, we will gain a good result in the future. So we must make our actions sacred. “Not by action, not by offspring, not by wealth; by sacrifice alone have some attained immortality”: so we must gain Ānanda through sacrifice. That alone is lasting Ānanda. That alone is true wealth. That wealth never melts away, never wanes. You must earn such wealth. You must spend your time in the thought of God. Wherever you set foot, God Himself is there. All that you see with your eyes is the form of God. When you believe that God is everywhere, you will have no troubles of any kind. You need not grieve or be afraid over anything. When I am here, why should you fear?

God is right in your home, at your side, beside you and before your eyes. You must never forget such a God. Ill-wishers may say any number of things. But are they filling your stomach? No, they are not! “Be it in the forest, be it in the sky, be it in the town, in the village, on a hilltop, or fallen into midstream...” Wherever you may be, the one who protects you in every way is God alone. The unrest and the impurity in the towns today are found in no village. Man's mind itself has become impure. Only when you make the mind pure does everything become pure.

Prema is God; Prema is our all

Students! Devotees! Bhakti is not merely reading sacred books and doing pūjās. You may do these too. But above all you must keep your heart pure. Whatever changes, you must see that the faith in your heart does not change. All that is worldly comes and goes like drifting clouds.
