Passage 6

In plain words

We must teach them new methods. Only then will this spread through the whole world.

Our Prime Minister, Vajpayee, wrote a letter and sent it through Indulal Shah. “Swami! Even our Government has done nothing like this. This is possible for no one but You. You should take on still greater responsibilities and enter into such work on behalf of the Government too,” he requested. They, bless them, write like this out of love. But we must not enter into the work of the Government on the ground that they wrote out of love. For their svabhāvas are different, their prabhāvas are different; our Ānanda is different, our practice is different, our experiences are different. So we ourselves look after our own work. Many gatherings are taking place here. But nowhere are donations being collected. Each eats his own food; each sees to his own comforts; everyone experiences a joy that comes from the heart.

Speak less and work more

The prabhāva of today's students has turned very perverse. They pursue very high studies; they become doctors, they become engineers. But they do not enter into work. The moment they take their degrees, they try for a visa to go abroad. Then what is all this study for? All the learning of this Kali age is turning into polluted learning. Today's students come to know everything. But they do not put it into practice. Some of them: “Swami knows everything. Whatever Swami says is for my good,” they say. But they do not bow their heads to Swami's command. Once you think that anything Swami says is for your good, why should you not bow to Swami's command? Whatever you say, that you must do. All of you are Bal Vikas teachers. But teachers must first of all be good students. If a student goes bad, he alone suffers the loss. But if a teacher goes bad, many students go bad along with him. So teachers must be very careful.
