Passage 11

Tap any word for its meaning.

In plain words

The honour of the country rests on the honour of women alone. The good fortune of women is the good fortune of the country. So we must protect the Dharma of women and uphold the honour and dignity of women. I have resolved to give some lakhs to those who campaign for this in a fitting way. In this world every single thing depends on money. So we must protect this Dharma with money itself. Indecent shows must not appear in the papers and in films. Children today see such shows and ruin their own future. So we must strive as hard as we can to foster the holy culture of Bhārata. For that I am ready. We must speak the truth. We must practise Dharma. We must put a stop to injustice and wrongdoing.

The example of the Vice-President, Krishan Kant

The Veda has taught, ‘Let your mother be God to you, let your father be God to you.’ Parents offer up their very lives for their children. So above all we must make our parents happy. A small example: our Krishan Kant (the Vice-President) is right here. His mother is a very great devotee. She is ever thinking of God. If Krishan Kant has come today to so holy a position, his mother is the root cause of it. When I see her I feel great joy. She is always telling her son about the culture of Bhārata. “Kṛṣṇa, my son! You must stay calm. You must do this work; you must not do that work”: so she teaches him, as one would teach little children. Even now Krishan Kant does not go against his mother's word. With great faith, with humility and obedience, he conducts himself as his mother tells him. Such exemplary children must come forth today. Only when mothers are good will the children be good. Only when the mother is in good health is it possible to bring up the children in the right way. That is why we are soon opening a Mother and Child Health Centre at Whitefield.
