In plain words
Seeing his mother, Jesus came running. Shedding tears of joy, Mary drew Jesus close: “My dear son! Where have you been all this time?” she asked. Jesus: “Mother! I was right with God, my Father, wasn't I! Why are you crying? If one is with God, does anyone cry?” he said. In those days people used to offer doves in sacrifice in the temple at Jerusalem. Their thought was that if they offered them so, God would be pleased. Jesus worked hard to put an end to that evil custom. He went into the shops there and set all the doves free. Because of this, some bore hatred toward him and reviled him in many ways. But Jesus paid no heed to them. He held that blame and praise belong to the body alone, not to the Ātma.
In Kali, remembrance alone is the way to cross over
When the Pāṇḍavas performed the Rājasūya sacrifice, they honoured Kṛṣṇa by giving him the first tāmbūla. At that moment Śiśupāla rose: “Kṛṣṇa! Is this worship for you because you carried off the saris of the young women as they bathed? Is this arghya offered because you took delight on the day you frolicked with the cowherd maidens? Enough now; put away this almanac. Do not go about praising yourself; stop it, shut your mouth!”: so saying, he began to speak whatever came to his tongue. “Chee! In so great an assembly this wicked man has told my Kṛṣṇa, ‘Shut your mouth!’” and Dharmaja shed tears. Then Kṛṣṇa flung at Śiśupāla the plate on which the first tāmbūla had been set and given to him, and slew him.
Many think that Kṛṣṇa slew Śiśupāla with his discus. Not the discus: that very plate cut his throat. Then the blood that spurted from his body fell on Kṛṣṇa's feet. Seeing that, Dharmaja was amazed. “Kṛṣṇa! The blood of that wicked man who reviled you so has fallen on your feet! This is wrong. That blood is not fit to touch your feet,” he said. Then Kṛṣṇa, smiling: “Dharmaja! Blame and praise, scorn and honour belong to the body alone, not to the Ātma. Even though it was in hatred, Śiśupāla went on remembering my Name all the time. I do not look at whether that is hatred or Prema.
