In plain words

How can one without the knowledge of the Ātma experience Ānanda? Body and mind are no more than tools under your own control. You are the principle of the Ātma, beyond these tools. You are the master. That is why it is said, Master the mind, be a mastermind. When he is taught in this way, he recognises the truth: “Sir! All this time I was sunk in attachment to the body and wasted my time in ignorance. I am the Ātma, beyond the body, beyond time”: so he gives the right answer.

The Ātma is the basis of everything

The Ātma stays behind the curtain and makes the body dance. But man forgets the Ātma, looks at the body and is deluded into taking it for the truth. The body is impermanent. You are what is true. Satya is your name. That is the Ātma. So make the Ātma your basis. Reduce your attachment to the body. So long as you do not let go of attachment to the body, you cannot understand even an atom of the knowledge of the Ātma. The Ātma is the embodiment of the power that is the basis of everything. That power of the Ātma we must understand. First of all, we must recognise the nature of the mind. Being born, living on the earth, family life, death, childhood, old age, actions, hardships, happiness ... All these are the workings of the mind. To recognise the nature of the mind, one must restrain the senses. How can one who cannot restrain his own senses lead others? He who has restrained his senses is the true leader. Unable to restrain the senses, unable to recognise the nature of the mind, man takes boundless pride in learning no bigger than an atom. He thinks he knows everything. That is the great foolishness. Fixing his sight on petty things, he forgets the principle of the Ātma. That is why he is crushed by troubles and losses. It is only because he cannot recognise his own nature that he falls prey to joy and sorrow. When he recognises his own nature, joy and sorrow cannot touch him.
