Passage 11

Tap any word for its meaning.

In plain words

Love all, believe that God is in all, make all happy. Only then will Ānanda come to you. If you want Ānanda for yourself alone without making others happy, will it come to you? No, no, no.

Embodiments of Prema! At least from today, make a fitting effort to purify your heart. What has happened has happened. However much you try, it will not come back. As you walked along, you came watching the road. Now you must look at the road ahead of you; why turn back and look at the road you have already seen? So do not brood over the past. The future is not in your hands. What certainty is there that you will be alive till tomorrow? So do not worry over the future. Make good use of the Present. This is not Ordinary present; it is Omnipresent. Because the fruits of past and future time are contained in the present itself. When you do sacred deeds in the present, the fruits that come in the future will be sacred too.

Today the Āndhras are celebrating Ugādi. Tomorrow is the New Year's Day of the Tamils. ‘Viṣu’, the festival of the people of Kerala, also comes tomorrow. In this way, every year so many festivals come. There is no shortage of festivals. There are as many festivals as one could want. But one must develop the understanding to recognise the inner meaning of festivals and experience them in the right way. From this moment, drive away the bad qualities and bad habits in you and purify your heart. Do sacred work. Only then will your life become fruitful. This is the message Ugādi brings.

For the Tamils' New Year's Day tomorrow, many people have come from Madras. Madras is not of today. From ancient times the people of Bhārata have kept Madras as an important city.
