In plain words

Enough now. We do not need another birth; we need not take another “newspaper”. This “newspaper” given to us (the present birth) we have read; we have enjoyed it, grieved, worried, and experienced so many other things. “O God! You gave me this ‘newspaper’ today, and I have experienced all that had to be experienced. Now I do not need another ‘newspaper’ (another birth)”: so one must pray. One must put an end to rebirth. Śaṅkara said:

“Again birth, again death, again lying in a mother's womb; in this saṃsāra, so very hard to cross, in Your mercy, to the farther shore: protect me, O Murāri.”

Śaṅkara, taking his disciples with him, was going to bathe in the Gaṅgā when, on the way, he saw a man sitting under a tree reciting the rules of Pāṇini's grammar, “Ḍukṛñ karaṇe, ḍukṛñ karaṇe...” He went up to him:

“Worship Govinda, worship Govinda, worship Govinda, O fool! When the appointed hour draws near, no, no, ‘ḍukṛñ karaṇe’ will not save you.”

“My son! The rules of grammar you are reciting will not help you at the end of life. So worship Govinda,” he taught him. He wrote many works of Vedānta. But in the end he too entered the path of Bhakti; he went on teaching that one should do nāmasmaraṇa. Today many people do nāmasmaraṇa. But they do not drink in the essence of that Name. In the world they do so much and experience so much. But Ānanda does not come their way. Ānanda is not gained from the goods and vehicles of this Prakṛti, nor from the doing of actions, nor from the reading of books. Only when you have purified your heart will God reveal Himself to you.
