In plain words
So, in every circumstance, you must do sādhana with a mind that does not waver and with firm faith. This alone is true Bhakti. Merely doing pūjās, or going about the streets repeating the Name, is not Bhakti. You must install divinity in your heart. You must see that no foul smells enter the mind. You must burn desires up completely. If even a little of them is left over, the foul smells start again and lead to misdeeds and bad habits. So you must see that there are no desires of any kind in the mind. But through the influence of this Kali age, worldly desires are growing even among devotees. Desire is just like a pig. Even when a pig is some way off, a great stench reaches us. How does man take such a thing into his mind and bear it? Man is indeed very fortunate. But with his own hands he brings misfortune on himself as well. By that he loses his fitness to reach the presence of God. Some people read many texts and give many talks. But they do not put even one thing they say into practice. Then what is the giving of talks for? To deceive others? In truth that is nothing but deceiving themselves! They are filling their hearts with untruth, fostering adharma and sinking into unrest. First of all you must drive untruth away and burn adharma up. “Speak the truth; walk in Dharma.” Satya itself is the form of God. If you put Satya away from you, who then can save you?
Sādhana means purifying the citta
Embodiments of Prema! Do not pride yourselves on doing some great sādhanas. First of all, get rid of the ‘stench’ in your heart. Grow the fragrance of good qualities. They alone can give you Śānti. You must become pure. That is not possible by reading texts, and still less by listening to talks. There must be both śraddhā and Bhakti. “Śraddhāvān labhate jñānaṃ.” Only one who has śraddhā attains Jñāna.
