In plain words
What is the sādhana you must above all do? Precisely this: making the citta pure. A devotee said: “With a pure citta, You, ‘Rāma! Rāma!’, are the One I call. Without purity of citta I have not even the right to call You ‘Rāma!’” Whatever Name you think of with a soiled mind, it is of no use. The mind of man today has become polluted. Then where will Bhakti come to such a one from? Many people put on the veil of Bhakti and practise deceit. We must not deceive anyone. Whomever we deceive, we only end up deceiving ourselves. We must purify the feelings that well up in our hearts. This is not a thing done with words; we must show it in deeds. Mind, word and deed must become one. “The proper study of mankind is man,” they said.
Business must not enter Bhakti
Today many people are doing business behind the screen of the name of Sai and practising deceit in many ways. They go to one country or another, one region or another, sell the name of Sai and fill their bellies. This is very wrong. Sai never yields to coins. That being so, would He put anyone into business of this kind? Do not let those who do such business even come near you; tell them, ‘Get out!’ Business must not enter Bhakti. To support your family you may do your own work. But you must not do business behind the screen of the name of Sai. Today such business is growing day by day. Not only in this country: this business has started up in many other countries too, England, America, Germany, Singapore, Malaysia and others. We must not enter into such business. We must keep the heart pure. One who has no pure heart is no better than a living corpse. For such a one you must perform the rites of the dead; you must not do him honour. If he comes near you, you must go far away. “Give up the company of the wicked; seek the fellowship of the good; do meritorious deeds day and night; remember always that all is passing.”
