Passage 8

In plain words

Sitting in the office, you must not think about home matters. In the same way, you must not bring office matters into the home. After coming home, you must look after the happiness of your wife and children. Today many people, unable to finish their work at the office, bring office papers home and get into a great strain. Office work must be kept to the office, housework to the house, business work to business, and spiritual work to the spiritual. But you bring one into another and fall into suffering.

Hiraṇyākṣa and Hiraṇyakaśipu were very mighty, great scientists. Today's scientists have been able to go to the moon. Hiraṇyakaśipu went even to the sun. Not only that, he reached the region of the stars as well. When he touched the Pole Star, a great disaster befell. So, however great a scientist one may be, one must do each thing only as far as it ought to be done. If one goes beyond the limit, disaster follows.

Suicide is a great sin

For man there is death, but for the mind there is no death. Even when a man dies, all the deeds he did in his life remain printed on the mind. In this way, the saṃskāra of many births stays printed on the mind. It is not possible to say that the nature of the mind is this or that. Some people, unable to bear their sufferings, take their own lives. “These sufferings are there only because there is a mind, are they not! So we will put the mind to death,” they think, and they resort to suicide. This is a great sin. The mind does not die so easily. So the very thought of suicide must not come to man. Bearing any hardship whatever, one must strive to make one's life worthwhile. The Ātma itself is God; God Himself is the Ātma. “Have no doubt that He is here and not there,” said Prahlāda. God is everywhere.
