Passage 7

In plain words

Forms and names appear different. Conditions appear different, but the divinity in all forms is one and the same. We must take care not to forget this oneness. What has man come for? He has come to know himself. Embodiments of the sacred Ātma! Truly, to know such a truth is very easy. Nothing is easier than knowing yourself. To know others is hard, but to know yourself is very easy. So you must practise the sādhanas fit for knowing yourself. Many kinds of illness befall the body. Many kinds of troubles come. We must not be cast down in the least by the sufferings that come to the body through food and habits. Taking no account of them at all, we must enquire, “What is the work we came for?” You have all come here and joined. What have you come for? You have come and joined for your studies. You are here, supposedly, for your studies. But what you look for is who knows what. “What have we come for? Are we making the effort fit for it?” each one must ask himself. Only then can we fulfil properly the work we came for. But today, against this, we forget the work we came for and go searching for what is not there. In the world many people go on worrying. “How will my life turn out?” they ponder. We were born only in order to grow. We grew only in order to achieve. And to achieve is nothing but to know Satya. We must make a fitting effort to know Satya. If we try to recognise this Satya, everything becomes clear to us. So we must recognise Satya through Prema alone. Look: wherever you look, the bulbs are all shining. These bulbs appear in many kinds. But what is in every bulb is this current alone. Without this current these bulbs will not light. The Ātma within us is the main switch. That very Ātma enters the ears and is heard as sound. It enters the eyes and appears as what is seen.

For everything, the current is the root and ground. That itself is divinity. That itself is consciousness. We have forgotten such consciousness. We must never let go of consciousness. As long as this consciousness is in our body, we remain here as embodiments of consciousness.
