Passage 8

Tap any word for its meaning.

In plain words

We must try to understand this consciousness. Consciousness is not coming from anywhere, nor going anywhere. It is right there. It goes to that very place. In spiritual matters today we fall prey to many kinds of misconceptions and doubts. Through these doubts we are going quite mad. So first of all we must put away these misconceptions and doubts. As long as that remains, we cannot see Satya.

Fill the heart with sacred feelings

Embodiments of Prema! Above all, you must not take in too many doubts. Through them a state arises in which man forgets himself. Faith is most important. It must be a strong conviction. If that conviction itself is missing, you simply go blind.

With eyes, yet blind, the auspicious form of Yours they could not behold; with ears, yet deaf, the enchanting word of Yours they could not hear; with the Paramātma in the lotus of their hand, they long for a wretched worldly life.

Sūrdās said this very thing: “When I had eyes, what did I wish for? Now that my eyes are gone, what do I wish for? What I saw when I had eyes, that very thing I wish for now”: so he said. With eyes or without them, what is seen is one alone. That itself is Divine vision, divine radiance. We must keep in mind the principle of that consciousness. That Divine light is in every individual. Without that light, none of these lights come on. So the main light is the Ātma alone. With this very thing in view, Śaṅkara travelled all over Bhārata and spread the divine teaching called “Bhaja Govindam”.
