Tap any word for its meaning.

In plain words

I need nothing. I have no desires of any kind.

The fruit of merit from past births

Jayamma's father came to Puttaparthi by car every Sunday to pay the labourers. Then Jayamma would insist that she too would come. Vittal Rao loved his daughter dearly. He would cook in Bangalore itself, put the food in the car and bring her along too. In this way they kept deepening their bond with Swami. It is now 60 years since this Jayamma entered Swami's service. She came to Me in this body's 17th year. This body is now 77 years old. For the past 60 years she has been coming to Prasanthi Nilayam, singing Swami's bhajans and learning good things, and so has grown the noblest feelings. That is why her bond and kinship with Swami has grown so great. Whatever it may be, if it is not one's lot, not one thing is gained. Such a thing does not come because one wants it, nor go because one says no to it. It is purely the fruit of merit from past births. So that family has earned a very great fortune.

Blessed lives redeemed in Swami's service

In her speech Jayamma spoke of the līlās of Swami that Venkamma (Swami's eldest sister) had told her. In those days Venkamma used to cook for Me and bring the food. This Jayamma used to follow her about, wanting to learn cooking from Venkamma. That was the kind of friendship the two of them had. Some time later Parvathamma (Swami's second elder sister) came too. One in the morning, one in the evening, they would bring Swami His food. ‘The times are not good. So Swami must not eat food that others bring. We ourselves must cook and serve Swami His food,’ they wished. Accordingly they took a promise from Me. They served Me until they gave up their lives. When their lives were ending, both were in the Manipal hospital.
