In plain words
But while Rāma spent his time in good feelings and good deeds, Rāvaṇa wasted his life in evil thoughts and wicked ways. That is why people bow to Rāma and revile Rāvaṇa. Fame and ill fame depend on a person's conduct alone. Some people hope to sit alone and practise sādhanas such as dhyāna and tapas. This is folly. Go where good is being done. Go where prayer to God is offered. Go where bhajan is sung. Go where holy people are. Your chief duty is precisely to recognise that the Paramātma is in all beings and to act on it. Not only to keep divinity in mind but to worship it in song is most necessary.
The slaying of Narakāsura means killing the asura hidden in man. In every person there is an asura. To kill him you need not go off somewhere and gather weapons and missiles. You must go on contemplating the Ātma that dwells in the heart itself. That is the very form of Prema. With Prema alone you can slay the asura in man. This one is not the sort to die by weapons and missiles. What weapons and missiles are there not in this world? What are they able to do? To tell the truth, man is tormenting his own self with these weapons and missiles. First of all he must develop attachment to the Ātma. Only then will the Naraka within him die. True Bhakti is precisely to recognise this truth and live by it.
Form a bond with God
With Narakāsura slain, a great festive air settled over his kingdom. With his death, hatred and demonic nature were rooted out; the darkness called ignorance was gone. The people, in joy and high spirits, decorated their houses beautifully and lit lamps. As long as that wicked one lived, not a single lamp was to be seen in the houses; there was no light anywhere at all. What lives in the dark? Bats live there. In the same way, bad qualities enter a heart filled with the darkness of ignorance.
