Passage 6

Tap any word for its meaning.

In plain words

If you keep company with such wicked people, you too will turn into ‘bats’. So you must not join the wicked even for a single moment. You must put away ties with the demonic and form a bond with divinity. Prahlāda gave room in his heart to none but God; he was absorbed in remembering God's name, and that is why he became worthy of God's Prema. You too, like Prahlāda, make time fruitful by remembering the Name. Today in the world demonic deeds are taking place such as the eyes cannot look on and the ears cannot hear. Why should we give room to such things? “Īśvaraḥ sarvabhūtānām”. Believe that what dwells in all beings is God Himself. Install God in your heart. Some look very sāttvic, but in their hearts there are very cruel feelings. “As the feeling, so it becomes”: each one's wicked feelings destroy that one himself. We must not form the slightest tie with such people.

A life of vyaṣṭi is a wasted life!

Embodiments of the divine Ātma! You cook pāyasam and celebrate the festival in the name of Dīpāvali, but are you trying to recognise its sacred inner meaning? To celebrate festivals in the right way, you must enter good company. Do not live alone. A life of vyaṣṭi may well be called a ‘waste’ life. A life of samaṣṭi is the very presence of the Lord of all. So you must join the samaṣṭi and spend your life in joy. The form of samaṣṭi is the very form of God. The Veda too teaches just this, saying, “Sahasraśīrṣā puruṣaḥ sahasrākṣaḥ sahasrapāt …” For what purpose has human life come? Not to eat and roam about like cattle, birds and beasts. As you eat, they too eat. The sense pleasures you enjoy, they too enjoy. Then what difference is there between you and the cattle and birds? So this is not what you must do. You must bring out the human values of Satya, Dharma, Śānti and Prema that are within you.
