In plain words
With the tongue that should speak the truth, man speaks untruth and falls into slandering others. What will become of such a one cannot be said. Satya is very precious. Only through Satya does life flourish. “O sacred tongue! Speak only the truth, always. Speak sweetly and wholesomely. Govindā, Dāmodarā, Mādhavā … so chanting, utter the Name of God!” — this is the counsel you must give the tongue.
The compassion of the mother Easwaramma
Easwaramma, the mother of this body, had a heart melting with compassion. She would speak to everyone with Prema. That is why she came to have such name and fame. If anyone was suffering, she could not bear to see it. Coming to Me, “Swāmī! Some people there are suffering terribly. Call them just once, speak to them and send them off,” she would plead. Whenever I showed anger with “Is it to make a ‘recommendation’ that you come here?”, “No, Swāmī, they are going through great hardship. Speak to them just once and send them off,” she would beg. “What kindness and compassion dwell in her heart!” I would think, and be filled with joy. Only what is full of compassion is a heart. But man today has lost compassion and is turning into one with a heart of stone; with harsh words he wounds the hearts of others.
Embodiments of Prema! Above all, women must keep their mouths under control. Men go about outside in many organisations, so controlling the mouth may be hard for them. But women must take due care in this matter. Carrying out the duties of the home, they must walk on the right path. This is the Dharma of women. They must honour those who come to the house. They must help those in trouble. The trouble that has come to them today may come to you too tomorrow. Troubles spare no one. So you must support those in trouble and bring comfort to their hearts. However much you hurt the hearts of others, twice as much will you have to suffer.
