In plain words
That itself is spirituality. Without the very foundation called spirituality, the power of science would not be seen at all. Man today tries to know about everything in the world. “Man has conquered all, but he has not conquered himself,” said Churchill. Man comes to know everything, but he cannot know himself. What use is that? First of all, ‘Who am I? What is my true nature?’ Only when he enquires so can he recognise the truth. In ancient times, at this time of convocation, gurus would gather their disciples close: “Let your mother be God to you, let your father be God to you, let your teacher be God to you, let your guest be God to you...” Such ideal thoughts they taught. The mother points to the father. The father points to the guru. The guru points to God. But today the gurus who point to God are very few. Students are forgetting their mothers; they are neglecting their motherland. In former days students pursued learning for the sake of yoga. But today they pursue it for the sake of a job.
Give up the craze for foreign lands
Students, women and men! Education is not some kind of drill. It is for the supreme goal of life, not merely for earning a living. Today you take your degrees and go out. In our country there are some two hundred universities and many thousands of colleges. Every year these universities give degrees to thousands and send them out. But not everyone finds a job. So what are the students doing? They set out for foreign countries. They go there and suffer hardships they ought not to suffer. Why should the work done there not be done right in their own country? The educated of today forget the motherland and give their ‘service’ to other countries. This is no mark of the educated at all. You must pour out your life for the country where you were born and grew up. You must stand firm and brave in the battle of life and win victory. Students today are not ready to work.
