In plain words
Human life has come about for the sake of seeking Satya, not merely for eating and roaming about. Man must recognise his own truth and understand his true nature. Jesus went on giving good teachings of this kind. Little by little his name and fame grew. In this world, when anyone earns a good name, there are many who cannot bear it. The wicked, out of envy, hate the good. Bad qualities such as envy, ego and pomp bring ruin to anyone, however great. No one forgives those who have such bad qualities. One must not revile anyone, nor mock anyone. Only when one cultivates sacred equanimity does humanness blossom in man.
Put bad qualities far from you
Man today has lost human qualities, and so falls into untold sufferings. Just as that which lacks the power to burn cannot be fire, so one who lacks human qualities cannot be a man. Such a one, however rich, however greatly learned, is no better than a lump of charcoal. You must put far from you bad qualities such as envy, anger and hatred. This is My message to the ‘Messengers of Sathya Sai’ (the service organisation of the former women students of the Anantapur campus), who are celebrating their anniversary today! Many members of this organisation are working abroad as well. They are leading ideal lives. A little while ago you heard the talks given by the girls who came from America and the Philippines, did you not! How sweet their feelings and their language are! They are all very highly educated. The girl who came from the Philippines has earned a Ph.D. degree. Though they have pursued such great studies, they have humility and obedience; they have devotion and self-surrender.
Along with education you must foster humility and kill bad qualities. If you do not give up wickedness and evil thoughts, what use is it, however much study you may do?
