Passage 2

Tap any word for its meaning.

In plain words

It is not hard at all; it is very easy. But it seems hard to you only because you do not follow the right path. The Law we have laid down for ourselves today rests on none other than the Dharma of Manu. But today the Dharma of Manu is not seen in practice.

Above all, you must look at good things, listen to good things and do good deeds.

“In the eyes, always a look of compassion and nothing else; words that ever overflow with tenderness; in the smiling face, the very feeling of nectar; a heart that always brings delight”:

you must lead an ideal life like this. Only then will Śānti come to you. A smile must dance on your face. A smile adds lustre to humanity. Mānava means one who is holy. But when does he become holy? He can become holy only when the human qualities are in him in full measure. One who lacks the human qualities is no man at all; he can only be called a demon.

‘Through anger, everything is ruined for people’

You must conduct yourselves with a calm nature. When a person who hates you comes towards you, if you too show hatred towards him, then a quarrel will start between the two of you right in the middle of the road. If you look on him as an enemy, the hatred in him grows all the more. What must you do first to check hatred? The moment you see him, you must greet him with a smile: “Hello, my friend...” At once he too says, “Hello, my friend..” The two of you go off happily together to a hotel. Friendship and unity grow only through good words. Hatred begins from anger.
