Passage 11

Tap any word for its meaning.

In plain words

‘Rāma said this, Kṛṣṇa said this,’ you keep saying. Whether it was Kṛṣṇa who said it or Rāma is not what matters. What they said, how they said it, on what occasion and why: these at least we must keep in mind without forgetting. If you follow their words to the letter, you will reach a very high state. Many people disregard what their mother tells them. This is very wrong. Mothers give good counsel from the heart, wishing their children well. If you ignore them without understanding them, a downfall is certain.

Students, girls and boys! In the future you too are going to be mothers and fathers. Only if you honour your parents now will your children honour you in the future. Whatever you do, its ‘reaction, resound, reflection’ come back to you yourselves. So obey your parents' command with reverence. Every kind of learning will come to you, and every power will be yours. I bring my discourse to a close, hoping and blessing you that, doing your duty and following your parents' words with love, you will make your lives worthy and in the future give your children the right example.
