In plain words
Yet Bhārata never clamoured after fame. Fame kept coming to Bhārata of its own accord, because of the nature of its people. In the culture of Bhārata the chief thing is sacrifice. The people of Bhārata were never people who toiled for selfish ends. Setting aside self-interest and private gain, they kept working for the good of the world. That is why, from time without beginning, they have gone on winning a fame beyond measure. The people of Bhārata have led their lives in the very shade of Dharma. Satya is the very breath of the people of Bhārata. Born in so sacred a Bhārata, what are we doing today? As the days go by we keep forgetting the fame of Bhārata, and make no effort at all to raise it up. Our life must be offered up to the Dharma of Bhārata. Only one who sacrifices for Dharma is a true man of Bhārata. In any matter, however small, Bhārata has kept Dharma as its aim and laboured for it. For this, Satya itself is the chief standard. Because the ancient people of Bhārata took Satya as their standard, they were able to win a fame that does not wane, however many generations and ages pass. But the people of Bhārata today think that wealth alone counts. They scramble to heap up wealth, but they do not work for Dharma. Money comes and goes, but morality comes and grows. But man today forgets ‘morality’ for the sake of ‘money’. Only one with moral values is a true man of Bhārata.
Do not sell Dharma for money
Students! The studies you pursue are for purifying the mind, not for earning ‘money’. First of all recognise this truth: education is not merely a means of making money. Do not sell Dharma for money. Our life must be offered up to Dharma, not to money. Dharma is our very life. Satya is our very breath. Sacrifice is our very nature. We need not toil for worldly name and fame.
