In plain words
We must set aside self-interest and private gain and work for Satya and Dharma. But today those who work for Satya and Dharma are nowhere to be seen. Satya and Dharma alone have guarded Bhārata for who knows how many generations, how many ages! So many great souls were born who dedicated their lives to Satya and Dharma. ‘So many great souls; to all of them, salutations …’ said Tyāgarāja. Many great poets, scholars and embodiments of sacrifice were born in Bhārata. Today we are forgetting such people. They never toiled for money, nor for name and standing. They spent their lives in the spirit of sacrifice. Sacrifice itself is true yoga. You must achieve that yoga and become worthy of God's grace.
Today, wherever you go, whatever corner you look into, the greed for money has run past its limit. In every field of the arts, music, literature, dance and the rest, they think that money alone counts. They enter into everything with a ‘business mind’. How sweet music is! Even that they are selling. Yet not everyone is like that. As you know, M.S. Subbulakshmi won great fame by the sweetness of her singing. She never laboured for money. ‘Money comes, and it goes. I do not sing for money. I sing to uphold the fame of Bhārata,’ she said. We must win such fame. We must give up the ‘business mind’ and lead a life full of sacrifice. Self enquiry: that is, we must set about the inquiry into the Ātma. We must hold on to Self confidence. Self confidence gives us Self satisfaction. Self satisfaction leads to Self sacrifice. Only through Self sacrifice is Self realisation attained.
