In plain words
So take part in service selflessly and win a good name. Only when you go on doing good deeds all the time can you enjoy happiness and peace in life.
“Na sukhāt labhyate sukhaṃ”: happiness does not come to us out of happiness. Happiness comes only out of hardship. Today many village people are moving to the towns in the hope of comforts, pleasures and riches. Chasing after comfort, they bring sorrow on themselves with their own hands. Whatever survives of our ancient culture is in the villages; it is not in the towns. In the towns they are ruining our culture. We must go to the villages, ask the people what they need and learn it, and do service to suit those needs. We must strive to remove their hardships.
Embodiments of Prema! What do you take service to be? You think that service is only helping those in trouble. It is not this alone. You must recognise and act on the Satya that every limb of our body was given for service alone, and not for other deeds. You must dedicate your body to service alone, at all times. You are building many temples and doing many sādhanas. All of these give only passing satisfaction; they cannot give lasting Ānanda. If you would experience the Ānanda that is eternal Satya, you must firmly believe the Satya that there is no way but service. You must help those in trouble. Not health care alone: you must do service of every kind. God is not pleased merely because you do pūjās and sādhanas; God rejoices only when you take part in service. So do service. The best way to love God is to love all and serve all. Prema and service: if you cultivate these two, there is no greater sādhana than that. We need not spend lakhs on service. Without wasting time, we must make our life worthwhile by doing what service we can, with Prema.
