In plain words
What kind of education are today's students pursuing? What fruit do they gain from it? They receive the degrees the government gives, but what the form of Satya in education is, they themselves do not know. Then what can they teach others? Today's students do not understand the joy that is to be had in games and songs. They think that in sport winning alone matters. But is this the goal of sport? No, no. “Life is a game: take part in it. Life is a dream: know it for what it is. Life is full of Prema: experience it and enjoy it.” Only the one who grasps the inner meaning of these three and lives by it is a true student.
Education that does not serve the progress of society is worthless
Today's system of education fosters only narrow feelings; it does nothing at all for a broad heart or for boundless knowledge. All of today's learning serves only to earn a living. There is no substance at all in the textbooks. It is astonishing to think how the Government accepts them. Most likely the matter does not even reach the Government. Someone or other at a lower level decides on them as textbooks. They do not realise what a bad name this brings the Government. In the world, modern studies are growing more and more. No one tries to see how sacred and how subtle the ancient learning is. Students read some books or other, take degrees and scramble after jobs, but they do not grasp the essence of education at all. Parents too do not consider whether there is right education in these books or not. They rejoice that the boy has got plenty of marks, but they take no notice of the mountain of bad remarks behind those marks. If only they would look at those very remarks, they could see what this education yields.
“Because the ABCDs have grown so many, the Vedas and Śāstras have all grown poor.”
