In plain words
Respect your elders. Think, “All are my mothers, all my fathers.” Keep good company, learn good words, cultivate a good way of seeing, acquire good learning and live as good people. Earn a good name. That is all I hope for. Your parents too hope for this very thing. But because they do not know what is good for your future, they are unable to show you the right path. Would any father who truly knew tell his son to go the wrong way? He would not. No mother would either. But even parents who know do not tell him, for fear of what the son will think. But I have no such fear. That is why I teach you all this. Sacrifice is very great. Indulgence brings disease. Sacrifice brings yoga. “Nakarmaṇānaprajayā dhanena tyāgenaike amṛtatva mānaśuḥ,” declared the Veda. So develop sacrifice, My golden ones! For your sake I am fully ready for any sacrifice at all. You too must be ready. Then I am yours, and you are Mine. The Veda has taught, “Mātṛdevo bhava, pitṛdevobhava, ācāryadevobhava, atithidevo bhava.” The true gurus are none other than the parents. So carry out your parents' command with bowed head. If you have to persuade them of anything, tell them in soft, sweet words, in a way they can understand. Today many children hope that good will come. But they follow what is bad. They wish for sugar and eat what is bitter. What they wish for is one thing; what they do is another.
In the great, mind, word and deed are one; in the wicked, the mind holds one thing, the word another, the deed another.
Only those whose thought, word and deed are pure are My children. To such people I will give whatever they need. I will not say no to anything. Students! In the past, many mistakes may have happened through not knowing. From now on at least, nurture right qualities and try to make your parents happy on one side and Swami on the other.
