In plain words
Worldly learning serves worldly life. Spiritual learning teaches the principle of the Ātma. So, as long as the delusion of the body remains, this worldly learning must surely be there. You must not give it up. It is ‘negative’; the learning of the Ātma is ‘positive’. Students! You must not throw away worldly learning, thinking, ‘It is negative, after all.’ Pass in worldly learning too. But true Jñāna is the Jñāna of the Ātma alone. Keep this one, and give up that one.
Who are true devotees?
I came here at one o'clock in the night. The liṅgas came from Kailāsa at that very hour. They come and go of their own accord. When they came at that time, I got up. I came here. I looked. Devotees, students, all were singing joyfully. But what sort of people looked like devotees? True Bhakti is precisely this: to keep thinking of Swami with a steady mind, free of moha. Thousands are sitting in this hall. But not all are devotees. The body is seated, but the mind is not on God. Sit wherever you like; if your sight is on God, right there Divinity comes to you. If sleep comes, you may sleep. Keep the principle of God with you even in sleep.
Let no curtain of forgetting fall; always, in waking, dream and deep sleep, with no wavering, again and again, the jīvātma recites the Tāraka: come to know that word, brother! By the Sadguru's grace, search out the difference and see it, brother!
At every moment you must keep Divinity in your mind. Only because there is Prema for the Divine have you come so far and taken part in the bhajan. Otherwise you would be sleeping comfortably in your bedrooms.
