“Darśanaṃ pāpanāśanaṃ....”

Embodiments of Prema! Today three thousand young people have come here from Kerala. With whatever Prema you have all come here, make that Prema grow day by day. Regard that very Prema as God. That very Prema will lend you a hand in every way. The blind Sūradās was journeying through the dense forests, yearning for Kṛṣṇa. Then Kṛṣṇa Himself came in the form of a little boy: “Sūradās! I am going to Bṛndāvan. Hold My hand. I will take you along with Me too,” He said. The moment he heard the name of Bṛndāvan, life leapt up in Sūradās. The boy said, ‘Hold My hand.’ But Sūradās's Māyā had not yet wholly gone. He took hold of the stick he had with him. Then little by little the boy kept making the stick shorter.

At last the boy's hand touches Sūradās's hand. Then the boy made known the Satya that He Himself was Kṛṣṇa. “Sūradās! Whether one is in the forests, in the sky, in the town, in the village, on the hill or fallen in mid-stream, for one who has no refuge, God alone is the refuge. Do not grieve that you have no refuge. I am here for you,” He said. Kṛṣṇa's hand touched Sūradās. Through that divine touch itself Divinity came to him. Until then he had heard Kṛṣṇa's words and dwelt on them. But he had not had the good fortune of Kṛṣṇa's touch. The very moment Kṛṣṇa's hand touched him, Sūradās cried out in rapture, “Kṛṣṇa! Kṛṣṇa!” Sūradās, who till then had been calling, ‘Hey boy! Hey boy!’, called out ‘Kṛṣṇa!’ the very moment the hand touched him. It has been said, “Darśanaṃ pāpanāśanaṃ, sparśanaṃ karma vimocanaṃ, sambhāṣaṇaṃ saṅkaṭanāśanaṃ.” God comes precisely to grant these three.

Kṛṣṇa came to show Sūradās the way. Then He held converse with him. At last, with His touch, He brought release from karma. So there must be the touch of God, there must be converse with Him, and there must be His darśan. With darśan alone, it is very hard to keep what one has gained.
