Passage 8

Tap any word for its meaning.

In plain words

In every small matter you must rely on Satya and Dharma. You must hold that Satya and Dharma, above all, come before your very life. The one who protects every single person is God Himself! So pray to God. To forget God and depend on people is madness! You must make God the support of everything. That is true tapas.

We must look on women with respect

Draupadī's very Bhakti and surrender went on protecting the Pāṇḍavas so greatly. From time without beginning, women themselves have stood as the life and the support of Bhārata. The women of Bhārata are embodiments of Satya, embodiments of Dharma, examples to follow. With what great respect we must look on such women! Today there are many people who hurt women. There are so many husbands who lose their discrimination through bad habits and bad company and torment their wives. You must never raise your hand against a woman. In Bhārata women have been given a most sacred and exalted place. When there are so many pure-hearted women like Draupadī in the country, if the people of Bhārata are falling into troubles, whose is the fault? Men are not giving women due respect and an exalted place. So the fault is the men's own. We must go on honouring women as is fitting and caring for them. In no circumstances must we dishonour women. Husbands who torment their wives cannot gain Śānti in the least.

Women are ready to pour out even their lives for their husbands. If men do not protect such women, what use is it that they live? Women themselves are the household deities of our homes. If tears flow from women's eyes, that home wastes away. So all men must take up the vow of Satya and go on protecting women. Many people go to temples. When they go to temples, they must first of all vow that they will protect women. Only when women are well does the whole world fare well. If you want to set the world right, you must first of all go on protecting the Dharma of women. I know how much women who have lost their husbands are suffering. Protecting such women is our duty. If you carry out such a duty, you will experience Ānanda all your life.
