In plain words
He gave Vināyaka the fruit and said, “The fruit is Yours.” Because it was the place where Vināyaka won the fruit, they named it ‘Palani’.
For the whole world, parents are the truly great. Instead of going round the whole world, it is enough to walk around your parents. Those who fill the whole world are the parents! Without parents the son himself would not even be born! If the children are to be virtuous, the parents must be worthy examples. The basis of every success is none other than the parents. Children go to many temples so that they may pass their examinations. With the ‘pocket money’ their parents gave them, they buy coconuts and break them before God. In this way they play nothing but outward games, and do not develop noble feelings. If you want success in any task, it is enough to please your parents. If they are content, you will surely be victorious. To teach people this sacred truth, Pārvatī and Parameśvara brought about such an event.
Where did Vināyaka come from? He did not come from anywhere. He was born right there where He was. ‘Sarvataḥ pāṇi pādaṃ’: to confine Vināyaka, who is present wherever you look, to one place is a mistake. No one can say that one particular place is His and another particular place is not. To turn our sight towards God, we give names, calling one place where He was born, one where He grew up, another where He moved about, and content ourselves with that. God is everywhere at all times. That being so, which is the place where He was born? Which is the place where He grew up? Which is the place where He moved about? Wherever people pray to God and drive away their bad qualities, there God appears before them. The place where bad qualities have been driven away is the very place of God.
God is beyond all attributes
No one can say that God has one quality and lacks another. ‘Nirguṇaṃ nirañjanaṃ sanātanaṃ niketanaṃ nitya śuddha buddha mukta nirmala svarūpiṇaṃ’: how can anyone say that He who has no attribute at all has this or that attribute?
