In plain words

they pray. He Himself is the leader of all. Forgetting such a leader, we take petty, paltry people for our leaders. No one else has the power and ability that Vināyaka has. In every undertaking Vināyaka Himself is the chief leader. People regard this day as Vināyaka's birthday. If He had such a thing as a birth, one could say that He was born at a certain time and in a certain place. But He is not one who was born. He Himself brought the whole universe to birth.

All the Vedas and śāstras, the Purāṇas and Itihāsas, came forth from Vināyaka alone. The four Vedas are nothing but His resolves! Everything is in Vināyaka's keeping. Vināyaka is the embodiment of Prema. In Him there is no such thing as anger. Does Vināyaka appear angry to you anywhere? No. Smiles are forever dancing on His face. Where Prema dwells, anger, vexation and other such bad qualities have no room to enter.

Vināyaka's circling of the world

Once, Pārvatī and Parameśvara set a contest between Vināyaka and Subrahmaṇyeśvara. They said they would give a fruit to whoever went round the whole world and came back first. It was not that Īśvara did not know; He willed this event in order to teach the world. Subrahmaṇya mounted his vehicle, the peacock, and set out to go round the world. Vināyaka, though, sat right where He was, without moving anywhere. “What is this, Vināyaka! You are not going to go round the world!” Īśvara asked. Vināyaka smiled: “Father! I need not go anywhere. In My sight everything is right here,” He said, and walking once around both His parents, He said, “I Myself have won this contest.” Meanwhile Subrahmaṇya came back, utterly worn out. “Father! I have gone round the world and come back first,” he said. Then Īśvara gave His judgement that the winner of the contest was Vināyaka.
