In plain words
Man's duty is precisely to obey the command of God. Whether outwardly or inwardly, everything happens by the power of God's will. So, whatever commentary anyone may give on God's command, we must not believe it. We must only obey God's command and walk by it; we may not put commas and full stops in the middle of it. No one understands such a strange and wonderful creation of God. All the great scientists say with their mouths that they have understood it, but they have no experience of it.
The devotee holds the power to change even God's will
Embodiments of Prema! No one can argue over God's command, one saying yes and another no. Take, for example, the story of Mārkaṇḍeya. Īśvara Himself gave Mārkaṇḍeya his birth. Granting him a life span of sixteen years, He told him to live as a good son. Because his parents longed for a good son, even one with a short life, Mārkaṇḍeya was born to them as a boon from Īśvara. He went on living his life with holy thoughts, good intentions and good conduct. As he entered his sixteenth year, one day he saw his mother in grief, tears streaming from her eyes. The boy could not understand why she was weeping like this. His father too was grieving in the same way. Then Mārkaṇḍeya went to his parents: ‘Mother! Why are you shedding these tears? Is there some danger to me?’ he asked. Then his mother told him, ‘My son! When God granted you to us, it was for you to live as a good son for only sixteen years.’ The son was greatly astonished: why had they not told him this until now? From that day on he recognised that time must not be wasted, that time is sacred, and that time is the form of God.
