In plain words
Such a spirit of sacrifice is not seen in any man today. Wherever you look, people give grand lectures about sacrifice, but they do not take a single paisa out of their own pockets. What is the use of doing such things? ‘Manasyekaṃ vacasyekaṃ karmaṇyekaṃ mahātmanāṃ,’ it has been said. Only one who lives that way is a true human being. You must go on protecting the honour of our country. Today the honour of Bhārata has fallen a great deal. Who is it, then, that has made beggars in this way? The educated themselves! Is this what being educated means? We do not need such education.
Though they have studied and won M.A.s and B.A.s, though they be elders of renown, though they have riches and are generous givers, though they be holy ones who have won fame on earth, though they ever perform japa and tapas, though they be brāhmaṇas learned in the Vedas, though they have long life and health without end, though they be men of perfect strength, they can never equal the devotees.
Today such perfect strength is not seen in the educated. They are becoming very weak. They are badly spoiling the honour of the country and the feeling for the mother. We must uphold the mother's honour. If you read the lives of great souls like Rāmakṛṣṇa Paramahaṃsa, Rabindranath Tagore and Vivekānanda, they all urged the people to have lofty feelings! So every one of you: ‘Who am I? I am a son of Mother Bharata,’ you must be able to say with pride. Just now a boy spoke: ‘I am a son of Bharata.’ So if you wish to uphold the name ‘son of Bharata’, every one must take up sacrifice.
