Passage 4

Tap any word for its meaning.

In plain words

Everything is contained in man himself. You yourself are Brahmā, you yourself are Viṣṇu, you yourself are Śiva. If you think, ‘I myself am all,’ no worry of any kind will remain. ‘I myself am Brahmā, I myself am Viṣṇu, I myself am Īśvara.’ If you foster a feeling of this kind, there will be no more room for ‘doubts’ of any kind. Nowhere in this world is any power to be found greater than humanness. The other powers are only fancies you have made up for yourself, not real powers.

Some think, ‘God has become angry.’ God has neither anger nor love. You yourselves make up all these. Stay in Prema at all times; then this anger and vexation will not be seen at all. Prema itself is your true form. The birth and growth of every human being and of every living creature too take place through Prema alone. There is no power other than Prema. You must enquire into this Satya and try to rid yourselves of delusions. In delusion there is no Brahman. In Brahman there is no delusion.

This whole world: ‘reflection’, reaction, ‘resound’

Embodiments of the divine Ātma! Brahman means Consciousness itself! Consciousness is present everywhere. Consciousness itself is the power of the Ātma. That power is present in you yourselves. This very power, dwelling in every person, makes the various forms appear. The power in humanness is divine and splendid; when you recognise it, you will be able to experience Śānti and joy in every way. ‘Divine power’ is not some separate power.

The power of your own concentration turns into ‘divine power’. So, first of all, try to recognise your ‘divinity’. The things you read in books create some delusions in you. They delude you into thinking that certain powers are being born and are perishing. What is born, what grows, what perishes: all of it is your delusion. You must not give in to these delusions in the least. If you are to recognise the principle that is eternal Satya, know that all that appears in this world is mere delusion. If you go somewhere up to a hill and shout ‘O’ aloud, the same sound comes back to you. The sound you hear is not a cry someone else has raised. The very sound that went out from you turns into an echo and comes to your ears.
