Passage 5

Tap any word for its meaning.

In plain words

You must go on nourishing humanness through virtuous deeds. You must give up the demonic. You must develop divinity. Unity, Purity, Divinity: these three you must develop. Unity means the oneness of mankind. In that very oneness Divinity is reflected.

From the bodies of Avatāras divine power shows itself in many ways

Once, when I went to Goa, I stayed at the house of Governor Nakul Sen. His wife's name was Indu. I lay down to sleep in the front hall. The two of them slept in the bedroom. That night a wonder took place. As I slept, a great radiance came out of My navel. She saw this sight through the window. Seeing so great a radiance she was struck with wonder, and woke her husband: “Listen, get up!” “You have no sense, go to sleep,” said Nakul Sen. “It is you who are talking without sense. Just open your eyes for once and see the divine radiance coming from Swami's navel,” she said firmly, and he got up and looked. Seeing the divine radiance coming from My navel, he was utterly amazed.

I will tell you of another event, from the childhood of this Avatāra. Karaṇam Subbamma was full of Bhakti for Swami. Her Bhakti cannot be described as this much or that much. In the conditions of those days Brahmins did not go to the homes of Harijans. One day, “Subbamma! I am going to the Harijan quarter,” I told her. “Ayyō, Swami! Why are you going there?” she asked. “Why may I not go? Why may I not eat rice that they have cooked? I am going,” I said, and set out. She too came along behind Me. The family whose house we went to were very poor, poor souls! There were no chairs to sit on in their home. They brought an old dhoti, spread it on the ground and asked Me to sit on it. After the meal I rested right there. After a while a great sound came from My navel, as if the roof would fly off. Hearing that sound, the people of the house took fright and ran outside.
