In plain words
We do not need the ‘help’ of others. It is the power of your own ‘Self’ that helps you in every way. The service you do is what goes on sustaining you. It is your ‘Self’ that protects you. So develop ‘self-confidence’. Only on the foundation called ‘self-confidence’ can you build the walls called ‘self-satisfaction’. Only on the walls called ‘self-satisfaction’ can you lay the ‘roof’ called ‘self-sacrifice’. Only then can you experience the ‘life’ called ‘Self-realisation’. Everything comes from the ‘Self’ alone.
Members of the Seva Dal! You think you have come in order to do service. You come only to do it for yourselves, not to do it for someone else. The food you eat is only to fill your own stomach, not to help others, is it not! In the same way, everything you do, you do for your own sake. There are many more things you have yet to learn. We shall tell you all of them later on. All of you are members of the Seva Dal. In this Dal there are many kinds of talent. A flower is made up of many petals. When we plant a seed, the seed grows little by little into a tree, and from it we get beautiful flowers. While it is a seed it is not beautiful at all; it gives us no joy. When little by little it takes shape as a flower, its beauty and the fragrance that comes from it fill us with fresh life in every way. But it looks like a flower only so long as all its petals stay together. If the petals fall away, it is no flower at all. So, first of all, all of you together, take shape as one flower. Seeing the beauty and charm of that flower and enjoying the fragrance that comes from it, all will be able to rejoice.
