Passage 10

Tap any word for its meaning.

In plain words

What, after all, is Education? It is not merely reading books. Reading books brings ‘bookish knowledge’. That is artificial. True Jñāna springs from none other than our heart. When the young recognise this truth and spread the right teaching, the country will prosper beyond measure.

“I am God; you too are none other than God”

Embodiments of Prema! Do not waste time taking worldly studies to be great. We must pursue the learning that makes us remember the Name of God. Do not be content with ‘bookish knowledge’. That is only ‘superficial knowledge’. Ātmajñāna matters most for us. Strive to gain it. It springs from within us alone; it is not had from outside. On a river bank, the more sand you scoop out, the more water comes, does it not! In the same way, the more we remove the evil feelings within us, the more sacred Jñāna and sacred feelings spring up from within us. Purity, steadiness, Jñāna: all these spring from the heart itself. All of you, above all, must foster good resolves. You must follow the sacred path. Whatever anyone may think, you need not mind it. You must not spoil your sacred feelings by giving weight to the words of this one and that one. In ancient times mothers gave their children sacred teachings of this kind. For that very reason the children of those days were always thinking of God. That is why the country stood firm under God's protection. For us the body is not important; the feeling is very important. Sacred feelings of God must spring up in us. “Where is God?” many people ask. I keep saying, “My dear! I am God, you are also God.” Why should we be afraid to declare this truth! I am God. You too are none other than God! God dwells in all. All are nothing but embodiments of God! Divinity is present in every human being.
