In plain words
One day, telling him to shut his eyes, I pressed hard with the thumb on the spot between his eyebrows. As I pressed in that way, all the doubts still tossing about in him were cleared away. At once Gokak: “Swami! God is but One! ‘I’ is but one! Prema is but one! Now I need nothing,” he said. In this way he was able to attain divinity. As we go on and on doing sādhana, certain kinds of powers arise in us. But we must not give them any thought at all. If we recognise just the fundamental principle, everything comes to us. Gokak kept that alone in his mind. Once, while I was in Kodaikanal, he sent Me a long telegram. In reply: “This is right. I know. Don't change your mind,” I telegraphed him. From then on there was no correspondence between him and Me. Once, though, he had his wife Śāradamma write a letter. She too was a great jñānī. Even when she wrote a word or two, they would carry very great meaning.
After that he touched no book; he did not ask any questions either. “Swami! All the answers You gave have struck my heart,” he said. “Gokak! Whatever bond there is between you and Me, you have recognised it well. Now take no thought for anything,” I said. From then on, the worldly relationship between him and Me fell away. Between us there was one relationship alone: the bond of the Ātma itself. This kind of bond grew strong between the two of us. At the last, before he left the body, he wrote a few words to Swami:
“I reached You”
